Pictures of city cyclists in Toronto, Canada using pool noodles to remind drivers to leave space when passing have emerged.
Any cyclist commuter in Ireland, particularly Dublin, will be well acquainted with the feeling of a car/bus/lorry driving much to close and not paying heed to the 1.5m safe passing distance rule.
A few cyclists have taken matters into their own hands and started the strategy of attaching a pool noodle to the back of their bicycles, forcing drivers to move into the other lane to go around them. And it seems to be working!
So the question is, should we all get ourselves a pool noodle?
I shouldnt even be showing you 905ers this BUT..Drivers and cyclists are playing this awesome new game downtown. The cyclists strap pool noodles to their bicycles and I’m pretty sure if you can hit the pool noodle with your car you get points! #VisionZero pic.twitter.com/9Wy2tNbcNF — Condo Chris Borkowski (@CondoChris) August 13, 2018

I also put the pool noodle back on the bike. The difference is remarkable. Though it still feels like a game of chicken when a car is zooming up behind you and you stay on course instead of moving right. #bikeTO #mastobikes — neville park (@neville_park) July 20, 2018
