Ready to take on the ultimate test? Registration for the iconic Art O’ Neill Challenge is officially open.
Time to take the plunge and get your name down for some serious suffering this winter. The annual Art O’Neill Challenge is one of our must-do events for the hardcore out there. Ultra runners, hikers and hybrids gather at midnight on 12 January to start the race.
Participants finish at some stage the next day at any time between 6am and 3pm. The 55km hiking/running event is becoming the stuff of legends. It traces the escape route that Art O’Neill and Red Hugh O’Donnell took in 1592 when escaping Dublin Castle. It is run in association with Great Outdoors and in aid of Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue.

Registration is open until midnight on Saturday, 18 November. No payment is required for registration. The event is limited to 200 participants and is usually oversubscribed. Therefore, after 18 November, all registrations will be entered into a random draw and places will be offered accordingly. Entry fees are non-refundable however, places can be transferred.
This year they have made the decision to increase the entry fee to €140 to enter. Not for commercial reasons but with all proceeds going directly to Dublin Wicklow Mountain Rescue Team’s (DWMRT) operating costs. The team also wants to raise funds to build its own rescue base.
So, show your support and register here today!
