In 2017, Mark Beaumont broke the world record for cycling around the world – by a whopping 44 days. The 34-year-old, from Perthshire in Scotland, cycled the 18,000-mile route in just 78 days and 14 hours. To achieve his goal, Mark had to cover a minimum distance of 400km a day which meant spending 16 hours in the saddle every day.

Prior to this record-breaking cycle, Mark had taken part in arctic rowing expeditions, broken the record for cycling from Cairo to Cape Town and travelled across the Americas.

Here Mark tells us about how his ambitions to take on epic expeditions as a kid (he took on 135 miles across Scotland on a bike at the age of 11) and how that has shaped his life as he knows it today.
