Two killer whales were spotted off the coast of Dublin this weekend, making it the second sighting of Orcas in two weeks in Irish waters.
Fishermen captured a video of the two whales about 8km east of Rockabill, off the Dublin coast near Skerries. According to the Irish Whale and Dolphin Group (IWDG), two weeks prior to this sighting, another fishing vessel spotted a killer whale in the same area.
The IWDG was made aware of the sightings by a video posted to Facebook by the fishermen. In the video, the fishermen guessed that the pair of Orcas could be ‘John Coe’ and ‘Dopey Dick,’ two whales belonging to the Scottish west coast community group of killer whales.
However, according to the Irish Times, the IWDG cannot confirm the identities of the whales. These sightings only add to the dozens of confirmed killer whale sightings in Irish waters this year.
