This infographic is a great overview of how a world-class cycling team approaches a big event.
New research by Queen’s University, Belfast hopes to aid Team Sky in making history at this year’s Vuelta a España. They have developed an infographic with advice on how best to prepare for long-distance competitions. The visual tool will offer tips on how to maintain their fitness and health. It will be displayed on the tour bus to keep the information at the forefront of the athlete’s minds.
Lead researcher Dr. Neil Heron from the Centre of Public Health at Queen’s University Belfast, who is also part of Team Sky’s medical team said: “In my career as a sports medic, I’ve seen athletes forced out of competitions due to preventable reasons such as contracting an infection through poor hygiene or not allowing enough time to acclimatize. For competitions like Vuelta which lasts three weeks, we want to support athletes to be in their best form for the duration.”
The Vuelta a España will kick off on Saturday 19 August 2017. Team Sky will, of course, be led by four-time Tour de France champion Chris Froome as he attempts to become the first cyclist to take the double Tour and Vuelta win in one year.
