An inspiring sustainable tourism conference will take place on Wednesday 27 November 2019 at Croke Park, Dublin. And Outsider readers that are keen to attend can enjoy a 25% discount on tickets (see end).
Organised by Ecotourism Ireland, this full-day event is a must-attend for forward-thinking tourism business owners and professionals who want to want to be inspired and informed about how to adopt and develop the best sustainable business practices. It will also focus on how to give your organisation a competitive edge. This event is about empowering people to make positive changes rather than being overwhelmed by the issues facing the planet in 2019.
The schedule will be packed with practical advice and inspiration thanks to speakers who have taken the lead in responsible and sustainable tourism in Ireland and abroad.
The line-up of inspiring speakers and discussions includes:
Míde Croke Park. During this session, you’ll be introduced to the why, the how and results of Croke Park’s move to being a Zero Waste Stadium.
Kenny Jacobs, Chief Marketing Officer, Ryanair. This year, Kenny was responsible for Ryanair becoming the first airline to report monthly CO₂ emissions and later this year he will re-launch Ryanair’s ambitious environmental policy.
Kenny is a great example of a speaker from an industry that urgently needs to move to a more sustainable model.
Anna Pollock. Amongst many other achievements, Anna was the founder of the Icarus Foundation which focused on educating the Canadian tourism industry about climate change.
Anna is passionate about the international tourism and hospitality sector, and its capacity to generate wellbeing, wealth and welfare for people and places – provided it is managed properly and with respect for the interdependence and connectedness of all life. A self-declared ‘sense maker, communicator, and catalyst’ Anna’s goal is to change mindsets and break down barriers. She will galvanise attendees into making changes and taking action.
Dr Cara Augustenborg. Described by the Irish Independent as “one of the 20 most influential people to lead the low carbon transition in Ireland”, Cara is an environmental scientist, climate change expert, media pundit, college lecturer and so much more. She is not afraid to address the hard facts but also has a great understanding of how we can pull together to create a bright future. This talk will leave you empowered.
Colm O’Regan. Colm is a critically acclaimed and award-winning broadcaster, author and comedian who has increasingly focused on environmental issues. He’s about actions as well as words. As chairperson of his local environmental group since 2013, he has organised monthly clean-ups and connected with schools and other community groups to increase awareness of environmental and littering issues. Through his Irish Examiner column, he has written on climate change and other environmental topics.
