Outsider’s Outdoor Itinerary
For those chasing challenge and unforgettable landscapes, this itinerary blends mountain highs, water-based exploration, and an inspiring evening talk.
1. Ireland’s 3 Highest Peaks – Coomloughra Horseshoe

Take on Ireland’s three highest peaks, Carrauntoohil, Beenkeragh, and Caher, along a challenging 12km ridge route. Expect steep ground, exposed ridges, and scrambling on high terrain. This is not a hike for beginners, but for experienced hill-goers, it’s a rewarding, awe-inspiring experience. Guides set the pace, ensuring safety and helping you soak in the dramatic views.
2. Kayaking from Ross Castle to Inisfallen Island

After a demanding mountain morning, trade elevation for calm waters. This kayak tour offers a more leisurely adventure, with sights including the Copper Mines, limestone caves, and the historic monastic ruins of Inisfallen Island. It’s an opportunity to keep moving while taking in Killarney’s lakes from a fresh perspective.
3. Guided Bat Walk through Killarney National Park

As daylight fades, this guided Bat Walk offers a rare chance to experience Killarney National Park after dark. Led by local ecologist Irene Ní Shúilleabháin, the walk follows wooded trails and lakeshores at dusk, revealing the hidden nocturnal world of the park’s bat population. Along the way, you’ll learn how different species hunt, navigate, and play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems. It’s a fascinating, low-key evening experience that combines wildlife education with a fresh perspective on a landscape most of us only ever see by day.
Outsider’s Culture Itinerary
This itinerary is designed for those who love to explore the stories, history, and heritage embedded in the landscape, blending hikes, art, and traditional experiences.
1. Gap of Dunloe Traditional Boat & Hiking Tour

Begin with a bus transfer from Ross Castle to Kate Kearney’s Cottage, then hike the 10km Gap of Dunloe, a narrow pass between the MacGillycuddy’s Reeks and Purple Mountain. Along the way, enjoy five linked lakes, towering mountains, and the option of a pony or trap ride. End with a boat journey back to Ross Castle, passing oak woods, historic Copper Mines, and the monastic ruins of Inisfallen Island, while the boatmen share the legends and history of the area.
2. Focal agus Fód: Language and Land through Art

In the evening, explore the connections between the Irish language, the land, and art. This session examines how stories embedded in place-names and traditions shape our understanding of the landscape.
