North Mayo is a beautiful part of Ireland that we highly recommend you visit for an adventure-based getaway. We also know that you’re bound to get hungry during your adventures so here are 8Â of the best places to eat in North Mayo.
One of the best venues in Ballina for food, drinks and great music. Bar Square has an amazing atmosphere no matter what you are there for and the staff are top class, friendly and attentive. They will go above and beyond to ensure you have an amazing experience here.

The Kiosk cafe is newly opened in March 2022 and is everything that Killala needed from a cafe. Its fun, quirky decor is matched by the friendly and bubbly staff members and the food itself is outstanding. The Full Irish is out of this world and we highly recommend it when you visit.
You’ll also never be stuck for a seat with indoor seating and an outdoor terrace overlooking the countryside and protected ruins to the rear of the building.

This is a must-visit after a trip to Downpatrick Head. It is one of the most homely cafes we’ve ever visited with beautiful homemade food, including deserts. Mary welcomes you into her restaurant like you are a guest entering her home and is one of the most lovely people we met on our trip to North Mayo.
Even if you’re not hungry you should pop in just to say hi.

Another town hub, the Western Strands Hotel is a fantastic place to eat, meet up with friends or unwind after a long day exploring the Mullet peninsula. If we were to recommend one dish it would have to be the seafood chowder. You can’t beat a good chowder in a coastal town.
Although not a native to the area, the owner David has many fond stories to tell about the area and the people who call it home.

This is the one you’ve all been waiting for! If Outsider had awards for chicken rolls, this one-stop shop at the foot of Nephin would receive the award for the “Best in Ireland”. The deli is immaculate and the staff are so friendly and eager to help. Not only have they perfected the chicken roll, but their sweet treats are to die for as well.
They will also provide you with a certificate to show that you climbed Nephin, be sure to ask about it as it’s a great momento to have from your trip.

Killala is really leading the way in the best places to eat in North Mayo. For a small village to appear twice on this list it must be doing something right. The Arch Bar & Restaurant is on another level though. The seafood in this place is some of the best we’ve ever tasted, it was just melt-in-your-mouth quality.
The staff again were so lovely and attentive, really showcasing the welcoming and friendly nature of the people of North Mayo.

Poacher Restaurant is a beautiful cosy restaurant in the centre of Ballina’s Market Square. The restaurant’s kitchen is run by award-winning chef Yvonne Katherin.
Yvonne’s unique food creations using seasonal local ingredients make Poacher Restaurant one of the best places to eat in North Mayo

The perfect spot for food and a coffee on the go. Another cafe that uses the amazing local produce that North Mayo has to offer and pairs its beautiful food with amazing specialty coffee.
Dave can and will speak to you for hours on end about coffee and his passion is evident in everything he does here. You will be dying to come back only five minutes after leaving.
