Attention hikers and outdoor enthusiasts! The Spinc boardwalk, a beloved feature of the Wicklow Mountains, is about to transform significantly. After years of serving as a gateway to some of the most breathtaking views in Ireland, the Spinc is showing its age. Starting this September, the old, weathered boardwalk will be replaced with a new, durable mountain path designed to enhance your hiking experience.

However, this exciting upgrade comes with a temporary inconvenience: the Spinc will be closed for three months—September, October, and November. We understand that this closure will affect many of the 140,000 hikers who visit each year, but the long-term benefits will be worth the wait. The new trail promises improved safety and durability and an enhanced connection with the wild beauty of the Wicklow Mountains.

During the upgrade, some popular trails will be impacted. The Spinc Short-cut (BLUE arrows) will be completely closed, while the Spinc and Glenealo Valley (WHITE arrows) and Spinc and Wicklow Way (RED arrows) trails will have a 1.2km detour. For your safety, we ask that all hikers respect the detour and closure signs.

When the work is done, we’re confident you’ll love the new Spinc trail—stronger, safer, and more scenic than ever. Stay tuned for updates and get ready to explore the revitalised path in December!
