Climbers are once again free to scale the walls of Dalkey Quarry following the lifting of a short-lived climbing ban by Dún Laoghaire Rathdown County Council (DLRCC).

Mountaineering Ireland confirmed the news after changes were made to quarry signage. According to Mountaineering Ireland CEO Liam Feeley, “It’s fantastic news that climbers are again free to climb in Dalkey at their own risk, as people have done for many decades.”
The quarry, often described as the crucible of Irish mountaineering, has been a training ground for generations of climbers. Mountaineering Ireland has thanked both its members and the council for working to restore responsible access.
New signage now highlights potential hazards while supporting continued recreational use. Training providers will be required to hold insurance and risk assessments, but no licence fee is expected.
Dalkey Quarry remains Ireland’s busiest and most iconic climbing venue, with almost a century of history overlooking Dublin Bay.
