Changing robes have become somewhat of a hot topic in the past number of years. While some old-school swimmers see them as something for yuppies, the majority have realised they are an essential piece of kit for those looking to brave the Irish or Atlantic Sea year-round. We recently got our hands on the newly updated Coucon Changing Robe and we are happy to report that we think we’ve found the best changing robe on the market.Â
As a seasoned sea swimmer, I am no stranger to a dry robe/changing robe and have managed to try out quite a few over the years. One of my favourites has always been my Coucon Changing Robe which I first got my hands on about five years ago. Despite its sublimely cosy lining (more on that in a minute), there were elements about it that meant it wasn’t a viable year-round option for me. For starters it was sleeveless and in a poncho style fit, going over the head. It is actually brilliant for getting changed underneath but not so effective for the post-swim coffee when you need the warmth of a long sleeve.
So, you can imagine my delight when the brand reached out to me to tell me that there was a new Coucon in town and it comes complete with long sleeves. I had to snap one up immediately. And thankfully, I have not been disappointed. It is, without doubt, the softest and coziest robe I’ve had the pleasure of wearing. This is due to the simulated lamb’s wool interior. One of the best things about the lining is that it doesn’t bobble or become scratchy after a lot of use and it repels water really well. And did I mention how soft it is?!
Elsewhere the outer is fully waterproof and hard-wearing – these products are made to last, and they do. There are two large fleece-lined pockets and a third internal pocket for your valuables. A large hood completes the robe, ensuring full protection on even the worst of days.
Lastly, the Coucon looks fantastic. I opted for the Mint Green and have had a lot of compliments since its first outing. The range will suit every taste as there are bright options including Mint Green, Flouro Orange and Electric Blue in addition to more conservative navy and grey options.
