The Watersports Inclusion Games returned to the Irish sailing scene with a bang this summer. With even more activities added this year the event was a massive success, attracting new entrants from all over the country. Participants don’t need experience or equipment to get involved and the games are open to everyone of all ability levels. Find out what the games are all about and how to sign up for next year’s event below!
The Inclusion Games is a free event that encourages people of all abilities/disabilities to get involved in watersports. The event is aimed at young people but caters to all age groups. Participants can get involved in many different forms of watersports including kayaking, canoeing, powerboating, and waterskiing.
2022 was the fourth year of this event and was hosted at the Lough Derg Yacht Club. This was the perfect setting for the event as the club comes equipped with good water frontage.
This event gives people with disabilities the chance to experience sports that they may not have known were accessible to them. It showcases how inclusive watersports in Ireland have become and the many adaptations of the equipment to allow the sports to be so accessible.
This event has been made possible by the tireless work of an amazing group of volunteers, whose enthusiasm, passion, and hard work really sets the tone for a fun day out.
What makes this event stand out from other similar events is the inclusion of participants’ families and friends. If participants want anyone to join them out on the water it is encouraged and it makes the whole experience much more enjoyable.
The Watersports Inclusion Games will be back again in 2023. If you are interested in participating be sure to keep an eye on their website or contact wsinclusion@gmail.com to be included on the contact list.
