EcoTrail Wicklow: Tips for Beginners

At first glance, EcoTrail Wicklow may seem like a daunting challenge to some. We firmly believe, however, that it is an excellent event for entry-level runners.
If you are capable of jogging 10km on the flat or completing a 3-hour hike you are well able to complete the 19km distance. A common misconception with trail running races is that participants run the whole thing. This is not the case. With the exception of a few runners at the front of the race, most people walk the majority of the climbs and jog the flats and downhills.

EcoTrail Wicklow: Ethos

At the heart of EcoTrail is an environmental conscience. The clue is in the name! EcoTrail has a number of initiatives to help their event minimise its impact on the environment. The team have implemented a few action such as:

  • No single-use plastic event: bring your own cup!
  • Partnership with PURE Project(Protection of Upland and Rural Environment) to clean the trails
  • Litter sorting: Project have partnered with EcoTrail. EcoTrail Wicklow has adopted a section of the race course and has committed as an organisation to keep it clear of human rubbish.
  • Tee or a tree: at registering you can to choose either an event t-shirt or to plant a tree
