We recently embarked on a giant adventure around Northern Ireland and we were blown away by the amazing food trucks that seemed to appear around every corner.
Northern Ireland’s reputation for great food is not a recent thing. For decades visitors to Northern Ireland have been treated to the freshest seafood and local produce prepared at Michelin-level standards. Recently, a whole new culinary experience has been added to the mix – the glorious food truck. Outdoor enthusiasts are rejoicing as they can enjoy great quality food and coffee at the trailhead after a long hike or in the beach car park post-surf! It’s a match made in heaven.

1. The Hatch, Newcastle
Located in the bustling town of Newcastle at the foot of the Mourne Mountains, The Hatch is home to the best burger we have ever tasted. It’s not hard to see how this place was Winner of the Best Burger in Ireland in 2019 and Street Food of the Year 2019. In addition to award-winning burgers, The Hatch serves up nachos, fish and chips, tacos, and amazing toasties at lunchtime!
2. Made in Antrim, Antrim
Located on Lough Shore, Made in Antrim has developed a cult following since it opened. And it’s not surprising given the impressive menu on offer. Offering up tacos, bao buns, nachos, dirty fries and street sauces, this place is sure to hit the spot after a long walk!
3. Fodder, Finnebrogue Woods, Downpatrick

Surrounded by ancient woodland, Fodder serves up a few select dishes using the very best local ingredients. While the Dexter beef is a particular highlight on the menu, Fodder also offers vegan and gluten-free options. In addition to the food, the setting is really what sets this place apart. You can enjoy your food in a teepee that is adorned with festoon lighting and open fires. It is a little slice of heaven.
4. The Wagyu Wagon, Killyleagh

Located close to the shores of Strangford Lough this is the perfect place to refuel if you have just tried your hand at a spot of e-foiling or kayaking at Strangford Activity Centre. The Wagyu Wagon offers burgers made from prime cuts of 100% grass-fed Wagyu beef. They are melt in the mouth! The Wagyu Wagon also serves up breakfast baps and burritos for early risers.
5. Pyke ‘N’ Pommes, Derry-Londonderry

Pyke ‘N’ Pommes has become something of an institution in Derry-Londonderry. Located on the quays of the River Foyle, this grey and orange double-decker bus is hard to miss. But it’s not all style and no substance at this fun-filled food truck; the food is absolutely delicious too. Having won multiple awards, Pyke ‘N’ Pommes serves up sensational tacos, burgers, salads, fresh fish and lots more.
6. Born & Raised, Ballymena

You haven’t tasted a waffle until you taste what’s on offer at Born & Raised. Serving up the most amazing Belgian waffles, this gorgeous converted horse trailer is well worth a detour if you are in the vicinity. Their offering is so good Liam Neeson even hired the truck for the set of one of his movies recently!
7. The Meat Box, Castlerock, Causeway Coast
Located within close proximity to Castlerock Beach, you can come straight from the surf and be devouring one of Ireland’s best burgers in a matter of minutes! Winners of the Best Burger Award 2018, a huge emphasis has been placed here on high-quality, local produce. Serving up breakfast baps, brunch boxes, sodas and hand-built burgers, The Meat Box never disappoints.
