Outsider Magazine
What Outsider is now
An outdoor media and creative brand covering adventure, travel, gear, events, and life outdoors in Ireland.
Outsider has been writing about the Irish outdoors since September 2012. What has built up since is 1,434 stories: where to go, what it is actually like when you get there, and what to bring.
Who is behind it
Connall and Matthew lead Outsider: the pictures, the films, and the magazine, still all-island.
What is in the archive
553 guides and 226 gear reviews, and at least one story from every one of the 32 counties, from Monaghan’s nine to Dublin’s 323. A further 351 follow Irish adventurers abroad. You can read it by place on the county map, or search all of it.
The Outsider Awards
Sponsored by Sport Ireland and run every year since 2022, the Awards go to the people shaping the Irish outdoors: mountain volunteers, youth adventurers, endurance athletes, eco campaigners, and the writers and film-makers who tell their stories. 58 pieces of coverage so far.
The podcast
30 episodes of long conversations with people who have done difficult things outdoors.
Outsider Studio
Editorial stories, photography, video, podcasts, documentaries, and commercial campaign work. 254 of the stories here were made with a commercial partner. Outsider Studio is the team that makes them: we partner with brands to create films, photography and campaigns for people who belong outdoors.
