A sauna session is like a small slice of holiday that we can factor not our daily life. Disconnect from your phone, your concerns and your responsibilities and allow yourself to release, relax and recover.
Mobile saunas have been popping up everywhere over the past few years. Every time we log onto Instagram there seems to be a new one opening it’s wooden doors to those looking to get in on the craze. It’s undeniable that saunas are good for us and have a myriad of benefits to our health but what is the best sauna out there? While we have not been to every sauna in Ireland, we have built up a deep enough sample to share with you some of our favourites as of mid-2024.

1. Bast Sauna
There is only one thing better than a public sauna by a beach in Ireland, a private sauna wherever you want. That’s right, the Bast sauna tent gives you the ability to have a traditional Finnish-style sauna wherever you want. We have been testing the Bast sauna tent for a few months now. If you would like to read our full in-depth review you can do so below.

2. Fad Saoil Saunas: Greystones, Co. Wicklow
The original professional mobile sauna. Many people credit Fad Saoil Saunas with starting the sauna craze in Ireland. What was once a single, mobile barrel sauna that was driven around Dublin Bay has become a three-sauna company. With locations now in Clontarf, Galway and Greystones Fad Saoil is the hub of many people’s self-care routine. Their mantra is to “Communicate, educate and inspire people about the benefits of sauna use.” The team achieves this by having a very educational and beautifully crafted social media and in-person experience.

3. Sweathouse.ie: Tully, Co. Galway
West is best! The lads at the Sweathouse are truly embodying the notion that the sauna is the new pub in Ireland. The last time we visited, while we sweat in the sauna the lads were rehearsing their trad music. A change from the usual incense and calming music. This time we were close to breaking into a jig in the sauna as the soundwaves deepened the emotional potency of the session. Located at Cleggan Pier, you can dip in a very sheltered section of the Atlantic Ocean. This makes it possible to cool off even on days when the waves are pumping.
4. The Sea Sauna: Portrane, Co. Dublin
The Sea Sauna, as the name suggests is the perfect sauna for the sea lover. Located in Portrane, Co. Dublin, this sauna offers attendees the opportunity to relax and enjoy the view of the Irish Sea. The soothing sound of the waves and the whisper of the wind calm you. The contrast between the sauna’s heat and the sea’s cool embrace creates a peaceful atmosphere, where you can find solace between the earth, fire, and water.
5. Hot Box Sauna: Rosses Point, Co. Sligo
With 4 locations nationwide, The Hot Box is the favourite of many sauna users. We visited their Rosses Point location and loved the “isolated” location. The sauna sits on the very tip of Rosses Point which extends into Sligo Bay. The sauna offers awesome views of Knocknarea Hill to the south and is right beside a slightly sheltered pool in the sea which makes swimming accessible in a wider variety of weather conditions. The Hot Box also has locations in Navan, Graiguenamanagh, and Carlingford Marina.
6. Helios Sauna: Bray, Co, Wicklow
A relatively new addition to the sauna community, Helios is located in Bray, County Wicklow. The sauna is located in the garden of a traditional Irish cottage across the road from Bray Promenade. This unique setting makes this sauna feel more like you are visiting a friend’s personal sauna than attending a public one. Helios also hosts run clubs, community events and more.

7. Samhradh’s Sauna: Cromane, Co. Kerry

We experience Samhradh’s Sauna at the Wander Wild Festival in both 2023 and 2024. Both times we enjoyed the intimate barrel sauna experience. Usually located at Cromane, just outside Kilorglin in County Kerry, Samhradh’s Sauna offers a little slice of summer all year round.
8. Tigh’N Alluis: Glencullen, Co. Dublin
The mountain lovers sauna. The location of Tigh’N Alluis makes it in our opinion. Located in the Glencullen Adventure Park just off the Dublin Mountain’s Way, the barrel overlooks the Sugarloaf Mountain offering the ultimate visual companion for your sauna session. Whether you are in a group or solo, this sauna will offer you the disconnection from the world that we all need from time to time. Located only 15 minutes from the M50, this sauna feels like a wilderness experience and will leave you feeling refreshed and ready to take on life.
