Mammut is NOT A STREETWEAR BRAND. Born in the Swiss Alps Mammut has planted its flag in the ground as an industry leader in all things technical outdoor gear. They refuse to conform to the industry norms of chasing trends and losing sight of their core purpose as a brand. We absolutely love this ethos, so when Mammut asked if they could send us a few products for review we jumped at the opportunity. We wanted to find out if the gear lives up to what the marketing would have you believe.

Broad Peak Insulated Hooded Jacket
This jacket is a flagship insulation piece that is made for the mountains. As soon as you put this jacket on you can feel the quality. The angles of the baffles on the jacket create a snug yet comfortable fit that makes the jacket perfect as an outer layer or to be worn underneath a hard shell. The DRYDown hydrophobic treatment on 800 fill power down insulation ensures that damp conditions will not affect the insulation as significantly as they would with an untreated down jacket. This means you stay warm regardless of the conditions. The jacket packs into its pocket for easy storage.
Product Information:
- Insulation: 800-fill power DRYDown with hydrophobic treatment for effective insulation even in wet conditions.
- Hood: Elasticated hood for added protection and comfort.
- Zippers: YKK Vislon® 2-way front zipper for smooth operation.
- Pockets: Includes a zippered chest pocket and two backpack-compatible side pockets.
- Packability: Stows away in its own side pocket for compact storage.
- Cuffs & Hem: Elasticated cuffs and adjustable hem for a snug, customizable fit.
- Material: Recycled Pertex® Quantum outer fabric for lightweight durability.

Sapuen High GTX
A lightweight, high-cut mountain boot that sticks to any surface. The Sapuen High GTX provides ample protection for off-piste hiking while remaining lightweight underfoot. One feature we were particularly impressed by was the Vibram Flextron II outsole. Many of the boots that we have tested falter when it comes to high-quality grip on varied terrain, not the Sapuen. This boot sticks to any surface and provides confident traction on the roughest ground. If everybody was wearing this boot mountain rescue calls would go down significantly.
Product Information:
- GORE-TEX Membrane: Waterproof and breathable to keep your feet dry in wet conditions.
- Mammut Flextron® Technology: Supports natural foot movement for better energy efficiency.
- Mammut Georganic® 3D Technology: Anatomically shaped components for maximum comfort.
- Vibram® Flextron II Sole: Provides excellent grip and stability on various terrains.
- Elastic Knitted Sock Construction: Ensures a snug fit and easy entry.
- 3D Memo Foam: Adapts to the foot’s shape for superior cushioning and blister prevention.
- PFC-Free DWR Finish: Environmentally friendly water-repellent treatment.

Runbold Winter Pants
A true winter hiking pant. The Runbold Winter Pants from Mammut are so comfortable we find ourselves reaching for them instead of sweatpants for nights in! The fleece lining provides both comfort and excellent insulation. Our first impression when we tried these pants on was that they would be too warm for Irish use. On our first hike in the pants we were caught in a freak hail shower, we were certainly glad of the extra insulation while we took shelter. The pants are shaped for movement, are stretchy and are fully adjustable at the ankle and waist. The mesh-lined side vent ventilation is the perfect solution for temperature regulation in a changeable Irish climate.
Product Information:
- Warm and comfortable soft shell material with fleece lining
- PFC-free Durable Water Repellent (DWR) treatment
- Made from recycled polyester
- Concealed fly with snap buttons and belt loops
- 2 zippered slit pockets and 1 zippered seat pocket
- Mesh-lined side ventilation with zippers for temperature regulation
- Pre-shaped knee section for freedom of movement
